Off to a rough start

This week is off to a rough start, but I think the radiation is sure to help and Ty will improve as the week goes on.  We ended up being admitted because Ty ran a fever this afternoon.  It isn't a bad thing because I wasn't very comfortable with the possibility of taking him home when he was breathing so poorly, anyway.  Ty is getting used to the daily trips to the hospital and he isn't as reluctant to be here as he used to be.  In fact, he settled into his bed nicely and he's already fast asleep.

His fever went away on its own (no tylenol), so that's a great sign that it isn't likely the result of an infection or anything.  His head pain is still pretty severe, but I think today was better than yesterday and his breathing sounds better tonight than it did last night.  I hope to be saying the same things tomorrow.

Tonight Ty toughed it out and made a trip to the toy room for a game of Monday night Bingo.  It was sad for me, because he was in so much worse shape than the other 3 and 4 year old's at the table.  Some of the kids who are here for their first and second rounds of chemo reminded me so much of how Ty was when we were here in October and November, and what a difficult road it's been.  I can only imagine how that makes him feel, too.  But... he was determined to win a prize and he sat there until he was able to yell "Bingo".  It was adorable how his face lit up when he won.  I can't wait until he can sit up at the table and play with kids his age again.  Neither can he, and that fighting spirit of his will help to get him there.

As always, thank you for keeping tabs on our little fighter!!  XOXO, love Ty.

  1. I really hate that Ty has to go through this; it is so sad and unfair. He did so well last weekend. Honestly I was so excited to hear of how his “walk” through the park was over the weekend… To think that there could be a booboo that a mom cannot kiss away or a doctor cannot stich is overwhelming.

The good thing is that his breathing and fever can be more closely monitored in the hospital. Are his respirations slow, rapid or something else?

B-I-N-G-O, I love that game! Just remember while you saw other children in better health that everyone goes through things differently and just because Ty was weak over the weekend does NOT mean that it will not get better. Be strong for him, I know it is not easy, look inside yourself, you have it in you.

If it is any consolation we will be praying for him.

Love you Ty, sleep tight sweet baby boy.

  3. Thank you for taking the time away from your sweet little boy to give us an update. I blogged today that you are my hero. I can't imagine the type of feelings that you go through on a daily basis. You are such a wonderful mother. It is because of you, I am a better mother.

My prayers are with Ty and your family. I think and pray for him continually throughout the day. My love and strength are with you, your family and Ty. I have never met your little boy but I have such strong feelings for him. Thank you for taking time away to share your story, it means more than you will ever know. Ty has changed my life forever.

Please have a wonderful night's sleep Ty.

  4. Cindy,

I am so sorry to hear Ty hasn't been feeling very well. :( Poor little guy. I hope that he is feeling better today. He truly is such a little fighter!

Tonya hit the nail on the head. Because of you, I am a better mom, a more patient mom. Your family has truly changed my life.

I dream of the day that Ty can sit up and play with kids again. That must be so difficult for you. Cindy, it WILL happen! I truly believe that Ty will beat up the cancer!
I have a 3 year old and I know how important playing is to them! He WILL get there!

I was born and raised in Long Island, Smithtown, the North Shore. I would love for one day for your little guy to have a play date with my little guy when he feels better. We only go to LI about once a year in the summer.

My Alex is so cute, when he sees me on the computer he says, mommy is it my turn yet? He loves to play Diego games on nickjr and then I point to Ty's picture. Alex says we have to check on Ty's boo boo first right mommy! He knows Ty when he sees his picture and I have my staff checking up on Ty too! We are all rooting for him!

Go Ty Go!!! Everyone is rooting for you!

    TEAM TY :)

  5. A friend sent me a prayer in email this morning and it made me think of your family and sweet baby boy Ty. I thought I would share it...

“This is my command — be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go”
    (Joshua 1:9, NLT)

I am really hoping for some great news today! Feel better sweet baby boy!!!

    Love ya :O)

  7. Oh, Cindy. My heart aches for you. Seeing those other kids and thinking of your journey must hit hard. Ty's spirit is so amazing -- I think that fighting spirit he has obviously has a lot to do with what he picks up from you. I know thinking positively becomes a way of life because how else are you going to get through this, but not everyone is strong enough to keep their spirits up under such prolonged pressure...you are amazing just like Ty. Even if you can't ease his head pain, etc., just know your positive energy does wonders for him -- so much more than you'll ever probably realize. You're a fabulous mom -- simply fabulous. Jut wanted to give you a little shout out. :) Lots of love to you (and Ty, Louis and Gavin).

  8. Lord grant us the serentity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. My Grandma, God bless her, suffered so many tragedies that many of us may not have survived, however, she lived till 89 and always said, God never gives us more than we can handle. Ty, God bless you. You are such an incredible fighter. Mommy, keep your faith in God even through these tests. Ty you continue to daily be in our prayers.

  9. He is ABSOLUTELY a fighter...AND A WINNER. He's going to beat this. He's going to sit at that table, well and cancer free helping other little kids get better. He's such a special little boy, and I pray all the time for him. As always, sending you strength and courage in case you may need it.
Sending tons of hugs and kisses for YOU, because you have to take care of yourself so that you can take care of your little man.

  10. I'm sad to hear the last couple of days were extra sucky. It's not fair :(

You are always in my thoughts and I continue to focus on our dreams coming true, despite anything.
