National Jump in Muddy Puddles Day - Thank You!

As many of you probably noticed via social media, we decided to declare April 1st “National Jump in Muddy Puddles Day” on behalf of the Muddy Puddles Project.  I had a blog posted on Scary Mommy yesterday that was shared over 18,000 times (READ ITHERE).  We created a Facebook page that has more than 1,050 likes in one week.  And we collected more than 150 photos in 24 hours – and counting.  

I took off from work for the majority of the day and I took Gavin and his buddy on a hunt for Muddy Puddles.  Since it was April Fool's Day, we also made some mud soup for the Daddy's for dinner :)  My favorite part of the day was when they broke into a muddy puddle dance party - their idea.  



I didn’t know what to do with all of these incredible photos – how best to share them, so I created a slideshow (forgive my poor video editing skills).  Eventually we will convert the new Facebook page to be solely dedicated to the Muddy Puddles Project, so please be sure to like and share.  I don’t care what kind of day you’re having, you can’t look at these pictures and NOT smile.

I sat down in my living room yesterday afternoon, the sun was shining through and for the first time since December I felt warm.  I heard some suspicious sounds over by the window and I knew immediately – it was ladybugs.  I counted 19 of them crawling around the room, flying and bumping into my windows.  I say it all the time, I simply can’t make this stuff up.   We lived in that house for 4 ½ years and I asked my mom – can you ever think of a time we had ladybugs like this until Ty passed away.  “Never,” she answered.  

Yesterday was a great day.  I went to bed with a smile on my face.  As I was putting Gavin to sleep I said “I am so happy I took today off to spend the whole day with you.  I loved playing at the park and running around in our backyard.  I had a great day, I love you.”

“I love you too, Lady.”


Can a heart melt more?  Lady.  How adorable is that!

    "lady" awe so so cute. The things they come out with can lift a sad mood instant and I am glad Gavin does that for you:) Every time I read about the ladybugs I get goosebumps, really amazing to know Ty is there all the timexxxxx

    What an adorable gentelman your Gavin is. Love that he makes you smile and your hear melt and I simply can not believe how much love and messages Ty is sending you.

Anything but cancer

Cancer is not welcome here.  It can never, ever, ever, ever, ever come back.  As I mentioned yesterday, Ty has been showing some physical symptoms that we haven't seen in a long time.  Please, God, don't let it be cancer again.  Anything but cancer. I spoke to Ty's doctor first thing this morning and he believes the increased weakness we are seeing on Ty's left side is not related to new cancer growth - but that doesn't rule out the possibility.  He feels that Ty is suffering from spasticity, which is becoming more visible now only because Ty is getting stronger.  As Ty's muscles begin to regain mass and tone, the neurological weakness on his left side is becoming more noticeable.  This spasticity is likely permanent, but also treatable with continued therapy.  When I spoke to his physical therapist later today, she agreed that it would explain what she is seeing, and then she reassured me that walking again is still a highly attainable goal for Ty.  And "

Our aching hearts

My face is swollen.  My eyes are heavy.  I have been crying for what feels like an eternity.  But in between my tears, I have an overwhelming sense of freedom.  Today we were told that there are no more treatment options for Ty.  That his MRI Saturday night shows progressive lepto-meningial disease in three different areas.  Lou and I decided against surgery to fix Ty's shunt, and I am finally free from feeling responsible for whether or not he lives or dies.  Ty is in God's hands. No matter how many times I swore that I leave Ty in God's hands, I was always clinging onto him with every ounce of my being.  Researching.  Fighting.  Begging.  Doing anything in my power to find a way to save him.  Finally, I have exhausted my options and I am letting go.  I may be kicking and screaming, but I am still loosening my grip because I know that I have to.  We have tried so hard, for so long.  Ty's doctors and nurses, they are so special.  They have given us beautiful. prec
