These stories just make my day!

My name is Abby and I have been following Ty's story for a while now. I just wanted to let you know how truly inspiring you and your family are. I was blind to the world of childhood cancer until the song "Ronan" came out and I began following Maya's blog, and then came across yours and was astonished to find a story so close to my home town on Long Island.

I have become so interested and inspired in this cause. I am a junior occupational therapy student at the University of Scranton, and now aspire to be a pediatric OT, my goal in life is to help kids live the best life possible for them. I have kept Ty and your family in my prayers constantly, and I know that you have received signs from Ty, so I just wanted to let you know I'm pretty sure I got one too!

Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting your superhero.  But I want you to know that I was babysitting yesterday (it was an overcast day), and the little girl I was watching wanted to have a pool party.  I complied. Once we were all done we dumped the water out and there was a huge mud puddle smack dab in the middle of the backyard. She went to jump in and I hesitated letting her, but then Ty and all the beautiful children that don't get the chance to be messy popped into my head and so I jumped right in there with her!

We jumped and giggled and ran around for a long time! Seeing the smile on her face as opposed to the frown if I prevented her from jumping in, was priceless.  We spent the rest of the day playing and making the most of the day. We started drawing with chalk and although she's not very verbal yet, she asked me to draw a ladybug for her out of nowhere. I was speechless and smiled towards the sky and thanked Ty for showing me to really enjoy the simple pleasures of life, even mud puddles.

I think what you are doing is incredible and you have my full support! I am behind you a million percent! WE need to find a cure for these kids so they can all jump in mud puddles as long as they want! Thank you for sharing your undying love, strength, and courage. I am honored to have been changed by your story! Thank you! Stay messy!!!!!

This is what keeps me going on a bad day.  And it keeps me smiling on a good day.  Thank you, beautiful Ty (and Ronan, and all of the beautiful angels), for inspiring so many people to remember how important such little things can be!

  4. what a wonderful story. I am so saddened by the loss of these babies and my heart is heavy with sorrow for those family members still here that live daily and dream of the day when they will be reunited with these babies. God is forever watching over you and carrying you through another day. To His be the blessings... He is a God of wisdom, and strength. Keep him in your thoughts always and he will see you through all your heartaches. Please keep writing because I for one look eveyr day in my mailbox just to see if you and Maya have written about your continues struggles to maintain your lives since your great losses. My prayers and blessing are with your families always.

  12. As I read this story, I couldn't help but put forward my two cents. I too found this blog and became instantly hooked and completely connected to a little superhero that I never got the pleasure of meeting. What is funny is that I too am an occupational therapy student at the University of Scranton. As I just finished my undergraduate degree and am continuing on to receive my masters of OT, I feel exactly how Abby does. As I've become more aware of the impact of pediatric cancer, through yours and others blogs, I have become certain that this field is my calling. My eyes have been opened to this unfair reality that so many children face but my mission is to help them live their lives as any child should, and help them find ways to jump in muddy puddles. I can't promise a cure will be found, but I promise that I, along with every other OT student from the University of Scranton will make sure that every child gets to live their superhero dream. Thank you Ty, for brightening everyones lives, and for helping me choose my path. And thank you Cindy, you are a true testament to what a GOLDEN heart really is.

Bless these people as they endeavour to make a difference in the lives of these special children. This is all because you share your lives and heartache to the world. Love and hugs xxx

  14. I let my 2 year old jump in puddles because of Ty, too!! (I would never in a million years had been so willing to let her do so, had it not been for reading Ty's story.. . I'm a neat nick!! !) The pure joy she gets when doing so always makes me think of Ty.

  25. I started following your blog awhile ago after my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2011. You and my husband (who is doing well after having an anaplastic astrocytoma the size of a potato removed) have inspired me to raise awareness for this awful disease. Today I hosted a 5K to raise awareness and we had a pretty low turn out. I was so disappointed, but when I got home sure enough, there was one beautiful lady bug right in the middle of my front yard. I have no doubt that it was from your beautiful Ty telling me to not give up. Thank you for sharing your story and your family.
