Marathon tomorrow!

Ty and I traveled down to Manhattan to be with Lou and Debi tonight as they prepare for the Marathon.  The midtown hotel is buzzing with anticipation for tomorrow's race.  I am so happy to be part of all of this excitement.

Ty had a terrific day today.  No vomiting whatsoever and he had a decent appetite so I feel a bit more at ease tonight.  I don't know how any of us are going to sleep a wink regardless, but still - at least I can exhale just a bit.

We took Ty to Dylan's candy shop this evening and then to one of my favorite sushi restaurants on the Upper East Side.  He was such a good boy the entire time!  I think he likes the city very much when he is here for reasons other than going to the hospital.  He especially enjoyed hailing the cabs.  He was adorable.  I'm SO glad that the G-shots kicked in and he is no longer neutropenic.  Otherwise none of this would have been possible.

Tomorrow we will be waiting for Lou and Debi in front of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  All of the nurses and doctors come down to the street throughout the day, and they even bring the kids down from inpatient who are able to go outside.  It is going to be so emotional for all of us, I am so excited about this and so incredibly proud of Lou and Debi.  Then we will walk over to Central Park so Ty can be there for Lou as he crosses the finish line.   We have a "Happy Birthday" banner for him that my niece and nephew made.  He is going to love it so much.

I only wish Gavin could be here, too!  We left him home with my mom and dad because he is just too young.  The city is so crowded and he gets out of hand sometimes, but we will be thinking about him all day.  I believe watching the marathon and cheering on Fred's Team will become a Campbell family tradition so he will be there next year :)

  1. What an awesome and inspiring adventure this must be for you all. I remember watching my Dad cross the finish line of the NYC marathon. I was sooo proud of him, and he was only running for himself. Lou, we are so proud of you (you too, Debi)! When Ty is grown he will remember watching you cross the finish line. He will be so proud of you for running for him and ALL OF THE PRECIOUS CHILDREN WHO A BEATING UP CANCER! This just adds to the reasons thatvTy and Gavin have to be beyond proud of their Mommy and Daddy. God bless you all. I think O have written this before, but my life Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31..." They that wait (hope) on the Lord will RENEW their STRENGTH. They will RUN and NOT GROW weary (Lou and Debi) and they will WALK (Ty) and not faint ."

  3. I just saw Ty's dad on TV running the NY marathon, and I just wanted to let you know how absolutely incredible you all are--Ty for his continuous fighting and you and your husband, for being brave and courageous and believing in a cure. I pray that Ty will recover and go on to become strong enough to conquer cancer. You are all incredible and your strength inspires me. I'll be praying for strength and peace for your family.

  6. Hi Cindy,

Everyday I pray for Ty and ask God what more can I do for Ty and your family and my Aunt suggested a prayer blanket. She would just need to know some of his favorite things to put on the blanket. If there is a way i can send you pics of a blanket she just did for a little girl fighting cancer also. You can email me at bayb320@aol.com if you are interested. xoxo

  7. Congratulations to Lou on the marathon. I remember feeling so emotional and proud after my first marathon I can't even imagine how it must have felt for Lou knowing that he did it for your beautiful boy. I am praying that the scan goes well. As always your family is such an inspiration. I am so sorry that you had to go through such a horrible panic attack. You are so strong and I'm sure it feels terrible to go through something like that. I am praying that things continue to go well for Ty.

    Take Care.

  8. Cindy & Lou,

Wow, I had a lot of catching up to do! First I want to say Happy Birthday Lou! I think Lou running this Marathon is incredible! Team Lou! :)

I just wanted to say that the kids looked adorable on Halloween, and I love the pictures from your in house photo shoot! The third one was adorable!

Here in MD we missed the snow. My family was glad because they knew if it started to snow, I was putting up my Christmas tree and no one would be able to stop me lol.

I am going to say an extra special prayer for Ty tonight. I believe that his scan will be just fine. It just has to be!

Since I have been reading your blog, he has come a long way. I had tears rolling down my face when I saw that he was standing up like such a big boy. He is simply amazing! :)

I'm not sure if I have my facts straight, but didn't the doctors not believe Ty would make it past Christmas last year? And aren't we 47 days away from Christmas???? That's what your son does, he beats the odds, all the odds. He keeps us all on our toes and drives us to the point that we cant breathe and then we get to exhale. Ty is going to beat this disgusting disease, I know this! :)

I think of you guys everyday!

    Team Lou today :)

  9. How Lou ever found the time to train for a marathon, provide for your family and continue to care for Ty is beyond me. I have 1 healthy son and sometimes make the excuse that I don't have time for exercise. You both never cease to be a source of inspiration and strength. It is so great to hear that Ty was well enough to see Lou cross the finish line and I am sure that kept Lou going for the last .2 miles!

Continued prayers for you and your family,
