With love to you all

Ty and the rest of our family would like to take this opportunity to send a message of love on this Valentine's Day.  We are so grateful for the outpouring of love we have received from all of you, and we wish there was a way to reciprocate.  I know I've said this many times before, but we look forward to the day that we can put all of this behind us and pay it forward.  The biggest lesson we have learned so far is that people are kind and good and full of love.  Thank to all of you for your loving words and acts of kindness over the past six months.

Ty is resting.  He faces another surgery tomorrow.  He will be getting his fourth (and hopefully final) VP shunt placed tomorrow.  He still has a ton of pain from his crainiotomy, but I guess it's best that he goes through another procedure now rather than waiting until he feels better only to knock him down again.  If all goes well, we should be able to move out of the PICU to a step-down unit later this week, and maybe even home by next Monday.  Fingers and toes and eyes and everything else crossed.

LOVE TO YOU ALL.  <3 XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO <3

  3. Hello - Just about a year ago my wife was diagnised with a very rare form of cancer - primary peritoneal cancer. It is considered incurable and 100% fatal. Statistically, no one has survived beyond 5 years because it returns 100% of the time (statistically).

We had a terriblle experience at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, RI. We basically shopped around - Cancer Treatment Center in Philadelphia, other facilities, and decided to have a 2nd surgery at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

I prayed constantly and took the attitude of there is no benefit to believe anything other than we can beat this. At one point, I broke down and was sobbing, pleading to God with every cell in my body for my wife to be cured. I heard a voice, my own voice in my thoughts and I said to myself - it will be done.

My wife is the most wonderful person in the world. We've been together 37 years. She went through 6 months of very aggresive chemo. The Doctors asked if she even wanted to go through with it because of the terminal diagnosis. She replied "of course I will, how hard can it be". She essentiall y breezed through the chemo with manageable discomfort. We also persued a Naturopathic treatment course of nutrients and supplements through a Doctor in Massachusetts. I believe in "praise the lord and pass the ammunition". I think my wife's own positive attitude, lack of anxiety, support from a very close family and friends, the best doctors in the world and supportive nutritional treatments - oh yes - and God's will - have brought us to where we are today. Technically my wife is in remission. She's back to work and her Doctors are beside themselves. They've asked her to counsul other women at the hospital. They believe her attitude is everything.

Long comment - sorry. My point is - never give up. Always proceed with the intention that your son will be cured and pray, pray, pray (if nothing else it makes you feel better)

Good Luck - I will pray for you

  4. My niece was diagnoced with a brainstem glioma. She was given weeks to live. She was told that NO ONE lives more than six months with a brainstem glioma. Radiation was the prescribed course of treatment, but the cancer kept growing.

As a mother of five, she had a lot to live for. We are a large family that believe in the power of prayer. Elyse went to a healing service and was prayed for. From that time her tumor started to shrink until it became in the doctor's words, "scar tissue."

She has survived the six month benchmark for brainstem gliomas by SIX YEARS!

I just found out about your little boy and I will be praying for him. The Lord isn't afraid of the tumor being up against his brainstem evan though we are. Elyse's was in the middle of her's like the pit of a cherry. God WILL heal him. Ty will be pain free.

  5. Hello. Came across your blog from AOL.
I will pray for your little guy. Cancer is such a devastating disease. My mother passed away from it about 16 yrs ago.
I don't want to look like I'm advertising but I came across this not to long ago on Youtube and maybe, just maybe it can help your son.
Please take a moment to watch it and go to this Dr's website.

This doctor has actually cured people of brain tumors. I don't know if this can lead you to anything but I hope this can be helpful.
I have a child that has medical problems and I know there isn't anything in the world I wouldn't do for her ( www.caringbridge.org/visit/margaretreed1)

  6. Pray..constantly, I am in a woman's Bible study and we will pray for the disease to leave your little boy. Take time each day to give yourself rest, and nurturing, your little boy needs you strong too. I have five children and I can not even imagine, but with God all things are possible. Do not listen to "NO" just keep moving forward. Prayers......

  7. No child should ever have to go through something like this. From reading your blog and your interview on AOL.com you sound like a very strong woman. Keep that strength up and continue the fight. Cancer is an evil disease that we must fight to overcome. I will be keeping you, Lou, Gavin and most of all Ty in my thoughts and prayers.

  8. I am just learning of Ty's fight and my heart is pouring with love and prayers for all of you. It is amazing what strength these little lives have and the example they provide for all of us. I want you to know that in a few minutes of reading your story that you have inspired me, Ty has inspired me ... we wake up everyday expecting that day to continue and most often we take for granted the moments we are blessed with. Thank you for reminding all of us of the gifts we have and that despite such despair there is GOOD and there is LOVE. Ty is a hero ... plain and simple. We wish you strength, rest, peace. love, laughter and guidance. Our greatest amount of love and prayers are sent to all of you! Sincerely ....Kathy

  10. God does not give us what we cannot handle. When I hear that I wonder well thanks alot God and why this poor kid, this sucks! But God must have a plan! We are all here for a reason some longer than others. I do not know Ty but I do know that his story had touched my life and I will take him with me along my journey!!

My grandmother was given 6 months to live with ovarian cancer...she lived seven years and into her seveties. I know it was her beautiful spirit, hope and will to live that kept her alive. She had things she still needed to do and see.

I work at Sloan Kettering and believe that science has come a long way and is an important part of revovery but it is perserverence, hope and faith that will carry you through this time!

Ty, you and your family are an inspiration to us all. Every moment is a gift and thanks for the reminder. My prayers and thoughts are with you all, never give up!!

  11. Hello,
First let me tell you that Ty is one of the most beautiful little angels that I have ever seen. His strength is amazing as is yours and your family's. My heart is just aching for you and my soul is praying that he can beat this terrible disease. I am sitting here in tears wishing that there was something I can say to make you feel better, to give you hope. I have my own little boy who is 18 months old, and the love I have for him is so over whelming and powerful, that I cant imagine him suffering in anyway, I would not be able to bare that kind of anguish. So I can say to you that you are an amazing woman. I will pray for Ty every night, as I do with my own son before he sleeps. Keep your faith, and love him every second you have him. I wish you the best of luck and peace.

    TJ

  12. God Bless your precious family - best wishes on the surgery today. I have been in your shoes and know how I felt - will pray for Ty, for you and your family. I always said that choices were vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Ty had no choice in this illness and all you do is from great love of your family. I will also pray extra hard for Gavin - it is almost as hard on siblings at times as the patient. God Bless your support system.

  22. I am not a sales person, so I hope that you seriously consider this...Have you tried using a Rife machine? I have two direct related family members whose cancers have both been CURED (Doctors will not say this - however no doctor has been able to find a spec of cancer left in either my grandmother or aunt since treatments with the Rife machine ended). It is completely non invasive, doesn't make you sick or anything, so at this point, what could it hurt? The machine our family has was less than $5,000 and utilizes frequencies to get rid of cancerous or abnormal cells. My prayers are with you and your little fighter!

  25. Just saw the interview on parent-dish. My family will be thinking about Ty and your family as you go through this difficult journey. Our son, who is now 10 years cancer free was diagnosed with an ATRT (Atypcial Teratoid/Rhabdoid) brain tumor at 11 months old - we were told to "take him home and make him comfortable" - that was unacceptable to me. I could live with any outcome as long as we tried...we found out the hard way that there is no such thing as false hope - at a minimum, it gets you out of bed in the morning to face another day of treatment. Your son is blessed to have such loving parents and we are hoping this recent shunt revision helps with any pressure build up and pain. Our "wee man" has had so many surgeries, we have lost count. But we have learned more from him than I thought I was capable of learning...he reminds us daily to be grateful for every moment, movement, and the smallest victories.

    Our prayers are with you.

  33. I just came across Ty's incredible story and now my heart is breaking.

In 2009, my brother was diagnosed with a very rare illness (Guillain-Barre Syndrome). Some forms are mild while others are so rare that the mortality rate gives very little hope. My brother had the most extreme - and the survival rate was at ten percent.

He was paralyzed from the neck down. Watching a 26 year old guy go from a strong military man to just wasting away was the hardest thing I've ever gone through. I know what it's like to want to trade places with someone. Then again, you know in your heart that they're stronger than you could ever be (which I'm sure is the case with Ty - he sounds like an amazing little kid).

It's been two years and my brother now is walking, talking, and nearly back to normal (not all side-effects could be healed).

PLEASE don't give up hope. There is always hope.

I will hope and pray for your little boy. He IS a fighter and quite the cutie.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all.

  34. Mrs. Campbell, he's a beautiful boy. I'm sorry you have this great challenge, but there is much hope (online research on alkalinity and cancer online will shed much light) - disease cannot exist when the body is in it's proper alkaline state!

I would strongly suggest you call the office of my Clinical Nutritionist, Dr. Robert Miller, DC, and talk to his son Jon Miller about some very powerful, but non-invasive NUTRIENTS to help eradicate this cancer. One is their legendary hand-crafted "Base Power," which helps turn the body back towards its proper alkaline pH. They have others Jon will tell you about, and they can ship them to you right away. They are not very expensive, believe me.

I have been in Dr. Miller's office on two different occasions when women have called in to tell him that their cancer scans are "completely clear."

  35. While I haven't read all the posts and related comments on your blog, I have to say that you will receive many opinions about your son's condition and the therapy that he's undergoing. Despite all this information-gathering, you will need to bushwack your way to sound, clear medical breakthroughs that are happening right now.

Oncologists do not have the time to read peer-reviewed scientific papers about these new innovations. I know that this will sound as one more opinion, but as a mother of two young children, I am trying to express this in a way that I would want to hear it if I were in your shoes. That is, go to lifeextension.com and research the steps that you need to take before your son goes into surgery for cancer or removal of tumors. There, you will find breakthroughs and findings of how to prevent mestastic spread of cancer.

And, your instincts are correct in keeping hope--doctors only have statistics to go by--your job is to prove the statistics wrong. You are on that bell curve and that's what you work with for the sake of your son. The primary goal is to get in front of innovative doctors.

If you are in NYC, start by speaking with Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, who is "curing" cancer patients who were perviously given the "standard of care". The reason I quote "curing" is because, technically they go into remission for such long periods (years) that they will succumb to some other condition in their old age before the cancer ever comes back.

I would suggest also visiting Dr. Burzynski in Houston, Texas. He, too, has been treating children with terminal brain tumors, and most are living way past their initial prognosis that was delivered from the best hospital in the country. I won't go into the details here, but with your research skills, you can dig up additional information about the targeted (gene) therapies and experimental therapies.

I would not suggest any of these options if I wouldn't consider them for my own children.

Also, research how you can optimize your son's health through nutraceuticals while he undergoes conventional therapies. His immune system must be optimized in order to withstand chemo or radiation.

We can all say that we'd keep your son in our prayers, but sometimes we need to put those prayers into action. Leave no stone unturned, no matter what crazy things you might find underneath it. This is your son't life and you're in control of it.

  53. Hello! I am really sad about what is happening to Ty. I have been reading a book named" The complete encyclopedia of Natural Healing" by Gary Null. Edition 2005. On this book there are patients who suffered from cancer to other bad diseases and they were healed using both natural medicine and regular. If you have a chance to read it it will be something that you could consider. On this book there is a lady named Sharon. Her son had cancer and he was healed by a treatment called 714-X. On pague 729 there is a phone number of a lady who was healed by another naural terathy. There are phone number of doctors that practice this medicine. you could propably try to contact them and see how they can help you. Let me know if you need some more info. I will pray for your handsome little man, Ty.

  54. Okay I would suggest googling breast milk kills cancer cells ~ all tumor cells specifically. If I was you I would find some breastfeeding moms and have them donate some to you. Take some shea butter and add the breast milk to it so that it is more like a lotion and coat his head and nape of neck in it. Also apply the lotion to the bottom of his feet and literally over his whole body since the skin is the bodies largest organ. My mom had bell's palsy and I made her some lotion with my breast milk within one week she was 100% healed. If you google bells palsy you will see that it typically lasts a minimum of 10 weeks. Breast milk is a gift from God with many benefits. Seriously google it!
